P&F News

Dear Parents and Friends,

I hope you are all enjoying the many aspects of the College.  As always there’s been plenty of activities to keep both students and families can immerse themselves in.  Let’s all take time to reflect on all the positives that we have before us.

Breaking News:  MATES Hours for sports canteens

In order to alleviate some of the sports canteen resourcing issues and allow the boys to contribute to the College community, we are implementing a trial run of MATES involvement in our canteens where the boys, under strict guidelines, can assist their parents at the Sport Canteen.

If this is initiative proves successful, we see this as a great opportunity for the boys to further involve themselves in the community and strengthen the volunteer base of the college.

More information will be posted on this new initiative regarding supervision & eligibility; boys are in full uniform and Year 7-9 Boys must be accompanied by a parent.

Yet another successful day in the College calendar – this year’s College Walkathon that took place on Sunday 19 May was, again, a huge success.  A big thank you goes out to all the boys & participants, parents and sponsors that continue to make this your P&F’s major fundraiser of the year.

Organisers, Volunteers & Supporters: each year the walkathon progresses and delivers a great day for the whole college family to enjoy and be proud of.  This is a result of the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers, college staff and supporters (namely the Enoggera Army Barrack) that back it 100% to make it happen.  Special thanks go out to Marty Kerwin who is the key organiser of the event, year in year out. Marty’s selfless contribution is an example of how MCA parents make things happen.

Battle of the Bands: it was hard not to tap along to a variety of music belted out by all the bands that were in action.  A big thanks go out to all the participants and the Music Department who coordinated the event.  It is certainly a great way to relax and enjoy the social feel to the day.

Sponsorship cards & collection: please don’t forget to collect and remit the funds that were committed on your son’s sponsorship cards (or more if you care to).

Sports Canteens

A big thank you goes out to all the parents that have been able to help out in the canteens.  Without your continued support, they cannot operate.

Don’t hold back – jump in & help – we need you: Football/Rugby season is by far the busiest time of the year in the sports canteens. At times you may see that we are stretched in resourcing the canteens and some of the college parents really go far and beyond in covering when we are short of help.

As we are all part of P&F, we ask that all parents (mums & dads) please consider offering some time at the canteen (either side of your sons’ game). We understand that some families may be unable due to the hectic sports taxi services we run every Saturday.

Bring a friend: No experience required, bring a friend or another parent from the team & senior students are also welcome to help out.

Signing-on or popping in: so we can manage the volunteer workforce it’s best to register through our volunteer platform However, random acts of kindness will always be appreciated - if you find yourself passing a canteen and would like to give another parent a break jump in.

If you need more information or interested in helping out please contact Roberta Bannah on 0427166 128 via phone or text.

Parent Functions

The Tower - what a great venue for our parent cocktail parties.  Since our last newsletter, the Year 8 parents enjoyed a great night on Friday 3 May.

The next parent function is for Year 6 parents on Friday 7 June.  Keep an eye out on the app, Facebook and email for details.  Please come along – it’s a great night in a fantastic venue; the food is great and the company even better.

Marist Card & Games Day

This time last year we were concerned that numbers of attendees to our community event was starting to drop off.  We are pleased to let you all know that numbers have returned and the day is a continued success whereby the College Family contributes to the happiness of the senior members of the community.

If you have any questions or would like to help out on this community event please contact Ann Hogarth and Sue Hartfiel our Card and Games Day Co-ordinators who have passed on this message;

Marist Card and Games Day – Wednesday 22 May

We would like to give a huge thank you to all the lovely Marist Mums who volunteered last Wednesday at the second Card and Games Day of the year. We couldn’t have put on such an enjoyable day without you all.  We would also like to thank our many, generous bakers for their delicious goodies.  Our 64 attendees very much appreciated the beautiful food. We are so grateful to those who donated raffle prizes as the prize draw is always a highlight of the day.

The next Card and Games Day will be held on Wednesday 31 July, so please mark the date in your diaries.  Any help is always appreciated.
