World Scholar’s Cup - 8-9 April 2019
Rather than a competition, WSC is a Celebration of Learning. Over 200 students participated in the Brisbane Round this year, representing over 30 schools.
Students participate in four separate challenges including the Team Debate, Scholar’s Challenge, Collaborative Writing Challenge and the Scholar’s Bowl. Individual and Team scores are recorded in each of the elements and students are rewarded on the basis of these scores. Additionally, a Debate Showcase takes place at the end on the final day, celebrating those Senior and Junior debaters who most stood out during the preliminary rounds. To cap off the program, students are invited to present items at the Scholar’s Talent Show to entertain the audience with musical items, comedy routines, acrobatics, etc.
2019 saw an increase in participation. Junior teams of Charlie Weaver, Aengus Madden and Braden Gettliffe, and Joseph Lewis, Isaac Lynn and Riley Allen won all three of their debates. Our other junior team of Angus Bathe, Louis Rebula and Matthew O’Keeffe managed to win one of their three contests.
