VET has been developed to cater for students who wish to directly enter the workforce, during or after senior years, or who wish to enhance their course load with a practical subject or for those looking to add skills and experience to their applications for part-time work or scholarships. Marist College Ashgrove’s VET courses focus on work readiness through a comprehensive Work Experience (WEX) Program. This provides an opportunity for students to develop work related employability and life skills through an active “hands on” learning environment. Students are required to commit to this work placement and to comply with all safety training
We are well supported by a broad range of employers as friends of the College and Old Boys who help us in this endeavour.
Our students’ programs are broadened through access to courses offered by other Registered Training Organisations (private providers, trade training centres as well as TAFE colleges). This gives students an opportunity to access courses that the College cannot provide. These courses are not covered by your school fees. All VET Certificates are nationally recognised and allow for articulation or advanced standing to
It is possible to get an ATAR and complete a Certificate course. VET Students who choose subjects need to realise that if they gain a school-based apprenticeship or traineeships then this will add to commitments both in and out of school. It is recommended that students choose subjects and Vocational Certificates which will give them a broad understanding of the industry area they wish to pursue post school.
Whilst it is still possible to gain an ATAR result and do a SAT, (School based apprenticeship/traineeship) it requires a strong commitment to work and study. Students who want to build a pathway into trade are encouraged to do our VET pathway. We can also show your child a path that includes third party delivery by TAFE, RTOs, GTOs and TTC which is blended into their subject loadings. Also be aware that some universities will look at a certificate III or higher as an entry consideration.
The College is looking at offering the following Certificates in class time next year (subject to availability and class sizes):
- NAT10432 Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology
- BSB50215 Diploma of Business
- BSB30115 Certificate III in Business
- CPC10111 Certificate I in Construction
- MEM20413 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways
- SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality
- SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness
It is possible through our Immersion program to do a double course in Construction. It is also possible through our 3rd party arrangements to use Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) funding for different courses.
Please realise that all Certificate courses incur a levy payment on top of normal school fees which is set by the provider or school depending on costs associated with the course. ie; scope of works not covered by normal funding from the government. We value add to all courses.
