Vocational Education

MCA’s VET courses focus on work readiness through a comprehensive Work Experience (WEX) Program.

VET has been developed to cater for students who wish to directly enter the workforce, during or after senior years, or who wish to enhance their course load with a practical subject or for those looking to add skills and experience to their applications for part-time work or scholarships. Marist College Ashgrove’s VET courses focus on work readiness through a comprehensive Work Experience (WEX) Program. This provides an opportunity for students to develop work related employability and life skills through an active “hands on” learning environment. Students are required to commit to this work placement and to comply with all safety training necessary such as White Card or Responsible Service of Alcohol.

We are well supported by a broad range of employers as friends of the College and Old Boys who help us in this endeavour.

Our students’ programs are broadened through access to courses offered by other Registered Training Organisations (private providers, trade training centres as well as TAFE colleges). This gives students an opportunity to access courses that the College cannot provide. These courses are not covered by your school fees. All VET Certificates are nationally recognised and allow for articulation or advanced standing to institutes in Australia offering national competencies as part of their course.

It is possible to get an OP result and complete a Certificate course. VET Students who choose Authority subjects need to realise that if they gain a school-based apprenticeship or traineeships then this will add to commitments both in and out of school. All students are encouraged to sit the Queensland Core Skills Test and we feel the practice is invaluable. However, it is not compulsory especially for students in School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs). It is recommended that students choose subjects and Vocational Certificates which will give them a broad understanding of the industry area they wish to pursue post school.

The College is looking at offering the following Certificates in class time next year (subject to availability and class sizes):

  • NAT10432 Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology
  • BSB50215 Diploma of Business
  • BSB20115 Certificate II in Business
  • BSB30115 Certificate III in Business
  • CPC10111 Certificate I in Construction
  • MEM20413 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways
  • SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality
  • SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness

It is possible through our Immersion program to do a double course in Construction. It is also possible through our 3rd party arrangements to use Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) funding for different courses.

Please realise that all Certificate courses incur a levy payment on top of normal school fees which is set by the provider or school depending on costs associated with the course. ie; scope of works not covered by normal funding from the government. We value add to all courses.
