Marist College Ashgrove has a strong history of sporting success due largely to the outstanding contribution of students, parents and staff.  Students are expected to participate willingly and generously as a means of contributing to school and community spirit and are also expected to represent the College in preference to club commitments.  Some students and families choose to be committed to both.  Parents should be aware that this can be very demanding. The College aims to cater for excellence and participation in all sports.

At Marist College Ashgrove we pride ourselves on the participation and spirit of sport in the school. Our aim is to allow every student access to a sporting team. We believe that participation in the College sporting program assists our students and College through;

  • building a great spirit in the school
  • educating students in teamwork and sportsmanship
  • developing skills in various sports
  • creating a sense of belonging to the school community
  • contributing to a fit and healthy lifestyle
  • fostering positive attitudes towards sport as a leisure activity

Students in team and individual sports would usually train twice a week, outside normal school hours.  Commitment to all training and matches is expected.  This includes boarders during ‘free’ weekends.  If after-school training is cancelled, the decision is made by 1.30 pm and information may be obtained on the College website or Sports Information Line [Phone number - 3858 4688].  Families should have a plan ready for these occasions.  At present there are no sign-on fees or charges.  The only expenses are individual items such as jerseys, tennis racquets, footwear etc.

Within the Combined Independent Colleges (CIC) Competition the College offers sports over three terms.  Each sport will have a 7 – 8 week long season consisting of home and away fixtures.
