Ashgrove Sport
Marist College Ashgrove has always enjoyed a long, proud, and successful sporting reputation. Part of the AIC (Associated Independent Colleges) competition, Marist College Ashgrove is regarded as one of the top sporting schools in Queensland. Since the inception of the AIC competition in 1999, the College has won the aggregate titles for Rugby and Cricket every year, as well as winning the Football (Soccer) aggregate for the past 7 years. The College has also enjoyed great success in other major sports such as Swimming, Volleyball, Cross Country, Tennis, Basketball, Track and Field, and AFL.
The college also boasts an illustrious old boy list of state and national sporting representatives that have included 14 schoolboy Rugby internationals and 23 Australian test representatives. Cricket legend Matthew Hayden, rugby legend John Eales and dual international Des Connor are all Old Boys.
Sporting participation is encouraged as a means of building up community, teaching physical skills, and encouraging a sense of pride and belonging.
