BOARDING SCHOLARSHIPS AND BOARDING BURSARIES FOR 2008/2009
Marist College Ashgrove offers a number of scholarships and bursaries for boarding applicants each year.  Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and, if successful, be prepared to board at the College for the period of their scholarship or bursary. If at any time the student requests a change to day status the scholarship/bursary will be withdrawn and full day-student fees will then apply.

These boarding scholarships and boarding bursaries are generally intended for students who live in rural, regional or remote communities who would otherwise not be able to access a Marist education.

YEAR 8 2009 ACADEMIC BOARDING SCHOLARSHIPS
Each year up to four academic Boarding Scholarships are awarded to students entering Year 8. An examination for these scholarships is conducted at Marist College Ashgrove in Term 1 of the year prior to enrolment. For families who are unable to travel to Brisbane due to distance, other venues may be arranged by prior arrangement. These scholarships, which are available to both our current students and new students, are determined by the results of an examination, previous school reports and other relevant information. Successful applicants are required to attend an interview with the Head of School.

Scholarships grant remission of half boarding and half tuition fees to the successful applicant and are initially tenable for three years. Possible extension of these scholarships is at the discretion of the Head of School and subject to satisfactory progress. The remaining half of boarding and tuition fees and any other compulsory fees and miscellaneous costs are the responsibility of the parents. Year 8 2009 Scholarships have now closed. Year 8 2010 Academic Boarding Scholarships will be advertised early in 2009. In 2008 there are nine academic scholarship recipients enrolled at the College.

CHAMPAGNAT TRUST BOARDING BURSARIES
The Champagnat Trust has been established to provide assistance to persons in necessitous circumstances selected on the basis of financial need. The Trust takes its name from the founder of the Marist Brothers, St. Marcellin Champagnat. These bursaries are for half tuition, half boarding and half compulsory fees for Years 11 and 12 [unless the family's financial circumstances change]. The remaining half tuition, half boarding and half compulsory fees and miscellaneous costs are the responsibility of the parent/s. Applications for the Champagnat Trust Bursary close each year on 30 June. In 2008 there are five Year 11 and two Year 12 Champagnat Trust recipients enrolled at the College.

CAMERON CHALMERS EDUCATION AWARD - This is a one year bursary of $2500.00.  The recipient is chosen at the end of each year, by members of the College Leadership Team, from current Year 11 country boarders with academic achievement being taken into consideration.

REX O'REGAN MEMORIAL BURSARY – This is a bursary of $5000.00 per year.  The recipient is chosen by the Head of School and awarded to a country boarding student in any year level. This bursary is awarded to a student on the basis of financial need and can be awarded to the same student for more than one year at the discretion of the Head of School.

PATRICIA KEATING MEMORIAL BURSARY – This is a bursary of $2500.00 per year.  The recipient is chosen by the Head of School and awarded to a country boarding student in any year level.  This bursary is awarded to a student on the basis of financial need and can be awarded to the same student for more than one year at the discretion of the Head of School.

OLD BOYS BURSARIES
At the discretion of the Head of School, students of Old Boys from country areas may receive assistance after due consideration of a family’s financial situation. In 2008 there are two students receiving support from the Old Boys’ Association.

INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIPS
The College has entered into an arrangement with the Cape York Institute (via Mr Noel Pearson) and the Higher Expectations Program (H.E.P.) to provide opportunities for students from the Cape to board at the College.  Numbers of students vary according to need and are arranged by the H.E.P. In 2008 there are three students from the Cape.

The Brisbane Broncos Charities Fund also provides support for an indigenous scholarship for a student to board in Years 8, 9 and 10 at the College.  This scholarship is for half tuition, half boarding and half compulsory fees.  The remaining half tuition, half boarding and half compulsory fees and miscellaneous costs are the responsibility of the parent/s. This scholarship may be renewed for the student’s final two years of schooling subject to satisfactory progress.  In 2008 this fund is supporting one student.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS (for non Australian Citizens)
From time to time various organizations provide scholarship assistance to international students (non-Australian citizens) to complete their education at the College. In 2008 the Macquarie Bank, with the assistance of Mr. John Eales, is supporting a Year 12 student from a Marist College in Tonga via the Jack Eales Scholarship.
