Locally, MATES provides students with a gradual exposure amongst various groups and sectors of society who face some of the day to day life issues which we hear so much about but often do not touch our own lives - poverty, loneliness, growing old, disabilities and many others. Through reflection and dialogue with those involved in the program, it is hoped that we grow in the ability to listen, to value difference and, finally, to courageously respond through the Marist charism.
Some examples of our current involvement include ..
- Sony Children’s Camp for Disabled Children
- Rosie’s Street Retreats
- BBQ With the Homeless
Through local initiatives, the College works towards our vision of a society which works together to build a community where there is mercy, peace, justice, freedom and integrity for God's creation. In working together to bring this to life "we take good scholarship, the love of learning, independence in thought and action and the readiness to take responsibility for one's own formation. To these ends we promote ... "the provision of learning experiences that are engaging, relevant and forward thinking" (College Mission Statement)
