HEALTH CENTRE

The Health Centre aims to maintain good health and well being for all boys. As well as monitoring their health care needs and personal hygiene requirements.

Boarders at the College are cared for in our first class twenty four hour Health Centre which is staffed by six Registered Nurses, overnight supervisor  and visited by a local doctor each week day. The main ward provides for 12 beds and the Centre also has the flexibility of two isolation wards. The Health centre also offers in house physiotherapist visits and all other medical needs are catered for with off campus appointments (dentist, podiatrist, chiropractors, massage therapists, etc) organised daily. The Health Centre foyer is a hub of daily activity where boys are welcome to spend time in the lounge area before accessing care from various health professionals. The level of communication between the Health Centre, the day school and parents is extensive.

Should a boys be required to spend time in the health centre parents and guardians would be contacted as soon as possible and his day school teachers informed of his absence to deal with issues of an academic nature. The on duty nurses provide a level of care and ‘mothering’ that is so necessary when boys are ill or even through bouts of homesickness. The small kitchen attached to the Health Centre provides boys who are unwell with “home made” healthy juices and monitored meals. With the College being located so close to the centre of Brisbane we are surrounded by first class medical practices and hospitals staffed by excellent professionals who are well aware of the special needs of our boarders.

The Health Centre has routine opening hours staffed by a registered nurse from 7.30 am through until 9.00pm at night. Outside of these hours the centre is always staffed and advice on how to seek medical assistance after lights out is given to all boys as part of their orientation to the boarding school. Accurate and comprehensive medical records are accessible via computer and only accessed by those whose have direct care for the boys.
